It's great to see all of your postings on our class WebBoard. Don't forget that you should respond to the postings of others - many of you already are doing a great job interacting with each other! Remember that participation in the class WebBoard discussions is 30% of your final course grade. In lectures 3 and 4 this week, we will focus on how to effectively and efficiently find what we are looking for on the 'net. We will go beyond the normal search engines and examine some high-powered meta-search engines that will speed up our searching and give us the results we are looking for! Helpful hint:
Each time you access WebBoard, read all the new postings, and then click
on the "Mark Read" button on the menu bar.
It is not too early to think about your research paper. You will need to select a topic for your paper (ANY topic that interests you) and review ten web sites that deal with this topic by July 3rd. The final research paper is due on Friday, July 28th. Class picnic! We are planning a picnic for all COM 333 students and their families for Saturday, July 29th - it will be held on the UIS campus from 11 am until 2 pm. Hold the date - more details will be posted during the coming weeks. If you would like to share a photo of yourself with the class, please send it to me and I'll post it to the class WebBoard (I can scan regular photos) - my address is 176 Henry Administration Building, University of Illinois, 506 S. I am generally logged onto AOL IM as "BurksO2" nearly every morning about 6 am and throughout most "business" days. I will also log on some evenings. If you have IM and wish to chat, just ring me up!
