Through the "online teaching partnership" the University of Illinois at Springfield (UIS) aims to provide leadership, training and collaborations with Chicago State University (CSU) and Northeastern Illinois University (NIU). This will provide another dimension to using online tools to enhance the diversity of views in our classes.
The “Online Teaching Partnership” will provide “access” to each institution’s membership: both students and faculty. One of the goals of this program is to provide “access” to unique educational experiences where students from “diverse” backgrounds (urban and rural) may interact and learn from one another. This program will eliminate the physical distances between the various campuses (central verses northern Illinois) and will provide the opportunity for members of the class with varying attitudes, life styles and cultures to interact with other students in the online class environment.
The Higher Education Cooperation Act (HECA) is designed to promote effective use of resources though cooperation among institutions, to achieve an equitable distribution of education services, and to develop innovative concepts and applications. Cooperation, as defined by the statute, involves at least two higher education institutions, and should be designed to serve a public purpose, while promoting effective use of educational resources, the equitable distribution of educational services, and the development of innovative concepts and applications.
