Criteria for Grading Weekly Discussion Postings

• Management of student's own threaded discussion:
• Good discussion question.
• Discussion question posted early in the week (and before Wednesday night deadline).
• Didn't let thread die - actively encouraged others to participate - if no responses to original question, re-framed the question.
• Responded to the students who participated in the discussion.
• Participation in other students' discussion threads:
• Participation in 3 other discussions (not just a single posting - but participation).
• Responses brought in new data and other readings; didn't just express a personal opinion.
• Integrated, synthesized - brought in the postings of other students.
• Wrote complete paragraphs - not just a short sentence or two.
• Added new knowledge - actually taught us something.
• All postings were consistent with the two "Cardinal Rules".
