Instructions for Adding Your Introduction to the Wiki

The wiki that was created for demonstration at the COPE-L meeting on 7 December 2007 resides on the "pbwiki" website.  This site provides FREE wiki hosting (Burks really likes that).  BTW - PB actually stands for "Peanut Butter" - since making a wiki is as easy as making a peanut butter sandwich:

Go to the wiki at http://cope-l.pbwiki.com/ and click on the "Login" link in the upper right of the page:

This action will bring up a new page:

Enter the password (which is "oakley" without the quotes), and also enter your name and e-mail address.  Then click on the "Log in" button.

You then will go to the main page in the wiki (the "FrontPage").  Click on the "Edit page" button to edit this page in the wiki:

Clicking on the "Edit page" button will open the page for editing in a "WYSIWYG" editor (so if you can use a text editor, such as Microsoft Word, you should be able to use the PBWIKI editor):

At this point, you can edit the page.  After making your edits, click on the "Save" button to save the changes.

Your edits also can include the creation of a NEW PAGE in the wiki.  While in the editor, simply enter the text that you want to serve as a hyperlink to the new page - then highlight this text and click on the "Link" button at the top of the editing window:

Clicking on the "Link" button will bring up a dialog box:

In the "Link Type" box, select "WikiPage" - this will create a new page in the wiki.  You also can select a name for the new page.  Then click on "OK", and then click on the "Save" box to save your edits.

If you then go back to view the page you just edited, you will see the new text and the new hyperlink.  If you then click on the new hyperlink, you will view a dialog box with an option to "Create new page".  Selecting this option will bring up the new page in the pbwiki editor, so that you can edit the new page.  Simple - just like making a Peanut Butter sandwich!

Note that you can re-visit the wiki at any time and make edits to any page.  You also can add other pages to the wiki with new topics that are of importance to COPE-L.

Finally, note that you can create your own wiki for free at the pbwiki.com website.  Simply go to the site and enter the name of the wiki you wish to create:

Good luck!
